Phonebloks: A Lego-like Smartphone

Phonebloks is a modular smartphone that's truly customizable. It is made up of separate, interchangeable blocks that are easily upgraded or replaced. What I find really interesting about it is, that you can design your phone with the components depending on what you need, and leave off those you don’t. If you're into taking photos, you can opt to have an upgraded camera block, or if you're always online, you can choose an upgraded battery block. If you're not so much into how a phone looks, but more into what a phone can do, then you'd find this idea pretty awesome like I do.

Right now, the phone is just a concept and the designer, Dave Hakkens, is more interested in getting social media attention. A Thunderclap has been scheduled on the 29th of October to spread the word around. Click the link if you want to join the Thunderclap and support this concept.

Here's the You Tube video explaining how Phonebloks works.

Wandering Flipflops is finally a Mac user

Remember that post of mine about my mid-year wish list? I wanted to buy a Macbook but I don't think that's going to happen anymore. Why? Because, I got a Macbook Pro instead! Heehee.

Introducing my new toy, Kylie!

Specs:
  • 2.3GHz dual core
  • Intel Core i5
  • 4GB 1333 MHz
  • 320GB 5400 rpm

Non-techie review: It's super cool!!!!!  Very easy to use. Unlike the PC, the Mac doesn't save a lot of garbage when installing files. And I like the fact that there are a lot of trackpad shortcuts using 1, 2, 3 and even 4 fingers! Pretty much like the dance moves of my friend, Unsubcultured :)

Wandering Flipflop's Upgrade to a Macbook Pro

Been really happy with it so far. Don't know why I didn't switch sooner. As some friends have said, "once you go Mac, you never go back"!

My Mid-year Wish List: MacBook

I think it's about time that I buy a new computer. My trusty little netbook, which I bought mid-2009, has been making whirring sounds for the past week and I'm scared that one day, it'll finally refuse to boot up. The noise usually happens on startup and continues for several minutes, stops, then starts again. I guess the fan is about to go kaput. That or I'd just abused it by playing Farmville, Frontierville, Market Street and Mafia Wars way too much. Prior to buying my netbook, I read somewhere that life expectancy for this thing is around a year or two. So I guess it's time to buy something new.

Here's what I'm planning to replace it with.

It's a good way for me to start being Mac-savvy as I've been a PC user all my life. I don't know how long I'd have to wait to buy one though. MacRumors  recommends holding off on buying it since updates are due soon. Price on the Apple Philippines store for a 2.4GHz  Macbook right now is at P51,990.
